Join the squad! Empire Times (or ET as we like to call it) is the student publication of Flinders University. Empire Times prints 10 issues a year, over the academic year. Empire Times has three student editors. Currently there are two editors in place for 2017 and we need a third – that’s where you come in.

Being an editor of a magazine is awesome! You get to publish articles, meet people, design layouts and work on a 27” iMac! Do you have skills in print, web, social media and graphic design? If not, are you willing to be trained up?

Length of Service: 1 of December 2016 to 30 November 2017
Applications open: 19 October – 2 November 2016
Honorarium: $10,000 pa

As an editor of Empire Times you are required to:

  • Collaborate with your co-editors to create issues of Empire Times during your tenure. This must be done in accordance to the production schedule developed in conjunction with editors and the Media Officer of FUSA.

  • To exercise authority over all aspects of the magazine’s production, design, photography, editing and writing. Endeavour to increase the prominence of the publication within the general student body and wider community.

  • Co-ordinate and support a diverse range of contributors, writers, photographers, illustrators, sub-editors, proof readers etcetera. Liaise with the Flinders University Student Association Student Council and staff and consistently attend any necessary meetings. Please note: An editor of Empire Times works an average of 20 to 25 hours a week on the content of each issue; content, design, layout and publishing. It is not obligatory that you have experience in publishing and design programs as you will be trained.

Applicants must be a current student of Flinders University.

You can read the full Empire Times Regulations here.
