  • First Year Support Strategies (FYSS) portal

Welcome to the FYSS portal which is designed to contextualise and improve the take-up of first-year resources available to academic staff. The portal is based on research conducted with staff at Flinders University who teach first year students and on numerous national and international studies. It functions as a communication tool and as an interface for a range of interconnected sites which house materials that staff can repurpose in their own teaching contexts: knowledge-enhancing resources such as video clips; published research; interactive elements such as quizzes; and a community of practice (CoP) repository.

The sites within the portal are designed for use as you develop a new topic or add to an existing one. They all follow pre-semester (what you need to do before the semester starts), then week-by-week (or module-by-module) pattern. The site presents material in a scaffolded fashion and is designed for you to move through sequentially and can be replicated specifically to meet the needs of your topic. However, if  you are searching for specific information about a key idea you may prefer to use the Ctrl+F keys to 'find' what you are seeking (eg 'group work', 'assessment' or 'scaffold').  Note: you need to click on the 'Open all' arrow at the top of the module block first.
